Silas Hughes

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Today I found Silas Hughes in the 1920 Census for Columbus, Ohio. He and his wife Mary Davis were listed as 47 years old with Earl 19 and Ralph age 10. Silas was the son of William W Hughes and worked as a section foreman for the railroad.

Several of his brothers and brother-in-laws worked for the railroad including: William Willard Hughes & Carlisle C Horn. I know that Ralph’s children still live in Columbus, Ohio. I once had this all plotted but seem to have lost the information over time.

Charles Parker Hughes

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Yesterday proved somewhat fruitful by finding the obituary for Charles P Hughes (1885-1939). He is the son of James J Hughes. The obituary stated that he had four daughters living, a brother and sister. This all confirms with what I had on record before with the addition of a couple more daughters.

Evidently, his mother Sarah J Hammond had past away. This gives me a time range from 1925-1939 to look for her death. I know that in 1925 when she sold the last of their property in Champaign County Ohio that she had it notarized in Wayne County Michigan. Due to her age, I feel that she may have moved in with her daughter, Florence May Hughes or son John Marshal Hughes.

Now the task is to find some of these daughters. It is somewhat possible that one or more could still be living in Columbus, Ohio. Anyone know this line?
