Family Tree Freeware Software

Can you recommend a freeware program for tracking my family tree base?
I have many names for the two sides of my family but no organization whatsoever. I know there is genealogy software out there, but I am looking for a simple and free version that allows me to enter the names and perhaps even a function that creates the visual "tree", which can often be useful to understand connections. I just discovered that PBS has a free download for something called the American Family Tree Builder 1900. Has anyone tried? Any idea on how it might compare with the Mormon FAP and proposals?
Person Ancestral File, or PAF. Mormons who do freely give. Jump to http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp and scroll down, looking to the right to "Download PAF. "Also" free colored Charts, right under the FAP, which looks like exactly what I wanted. ================ ========= Added later: You can Google "genealogy software comparisons," if you wish. FAP has been around for 20 years, has a large community of users (number 10 in the internal version of Y! A genealogy swear by it), and there are forums devoted to its use in both GenForum and Ancesrty. You walk into any LDS FHC and find people who used. I am a fan Roots Magic, myself, but is $ 29. Mormons are not like them go out of business soon, there will be support for him for a long time. Any PBS this week it can take off and can not. FAP works for you. Only thus will go out and start entering your data. You will not find any tool (including Estate Magic) that makes everything you want exactly as you want, unless you are willing to spend three years for you to write. (Assuming that you can program in a 4GL language and a special trust fund, so you can spend a year or two it would take to write it.) You can get a light version of the Legacy, last When I looked. Because they want you to buy the full version, there will be a lot of functionality.
