  Charles Parker Hughes

March 18th, 2008

Yesterday proved somewhat fruitful by finding the obituary for Charles P Hughes (1885-1939). He is the son of James J Hughes. The obituary stated that he had four daughters living, a brother and sister. This all confirms with what I had on record before with the addition of a couple more daughters.

Evidently, his mother Sarah J Hammond had past away. This gives me a time range from 1925-1939 to look for her death. I know that in 1925 when she sold the last of their property in Champaign County Ohio that she had it notarized in Wayne County Michigan. Due to her age, I feel that she may have moved in with her daughter, Florence May Hughes or son John Marshal Hughes.

Now the task is to find some of these daughters. It is somewhat possible that one or more could still be living in Columbus, Ohio. Anyone know this line?

  Greenlee Cemetery Leon, West Virginia

March 17th, 2008

If anyone knows of the location of the Greenlee Cemetery in Leon West Virginia please let me know. I want to see if I can find the grave of Hannah Hughes who married Samuel Greenlee. Possibly see who else is buried there and any potential dates that I can get from it.

I know that you can Google it but it does not give specific a specific location. Leon, seems to be a hot spot for my particular Hughes ancestors. It is just south of Point Pleasant West Virginia. BTW: Hannah spelled backwards is Hannah - Just for you puzzle guys & gals.

  Genealogy With a Camera

March 16th, 2008

Many of us are fascinated with our family history. Learning where we came from, as far back as possible, can be both fun and challenging. Putting together a complete family history is a very time consuming undertaking. To do a thorough job will take hours of research. A task that shouldn’t be hurried, but a journey through history to be savored and enjoyed.

The first place to start the journey is in our own home or the home’s of our relatives. There you can find a wealth of information. Documents, pictures, jewelry (possibly inscribed), old letters, diaries, vintage clothing, family bibles with births, deaths, and marriages recorded, and school yearbooks are all pieces of the ancestral puzzle. Hopefully, many of them will have been passed along marked with dates which will help in the chronological order of the pictures and documents. Read the rest of this entry »
